The List: Fox Brothers

The 2011 Creative Loafing Best Dishes List was how I originally found Fox Brothers in Candler Park.  This is where I discovered the existence of Frito Pie (original post here). Rocked. My. World.

Sure, the ribs were amazing (and make a repeat appearance on the 2013 list), but it's the Frito Pie that keeps me coming back and tolerating the hour-ish wait every visit to Fox Brothers.

I forgive the people at Creative Loafing for not mentioning Frito Pie as a top dish since the list doesn't technically mention "sides."

But I digress...  Today I want to let you know about,  from the new entrant to the Best Dishes, the smoked portabella mushroom sandwich.  If you're like I am, the idea of ordering a VEGGIE dish at a BBQ place is flat out wrong. Still, I knew I was going to be happy with the Frito Pie, so reluctantly went along with The List.   I am so glad I did!

The smoky taste of the mushroom was epic, and the kitchen has the good sense to use a spicy cheese which gives the sandwich a nice kick. The only disappointment was how utterly ugly it is.

In fact, the sandwich might win the prize for the "least-photogenic" dish.  Let's try this in black and white!Better. But, still not great.

I'm not complaining. After all, the Frito Pie isn't winning any beauty pageants. (And you know how I feel about that!)

Every trip to Fox Brothers is worth the wait!
