The List: Himalayan Spice
I'm getting into the far reaches of Creative Loafing's Best Dish List., which means I'm in new neighborhoods at restaurants I've never even heard of. This is my absolute FAVORITE combination for eating out! A few weeks ago Billy and I pulled into the strip mall to find Himalayan Spice teaming with people. Apparently if you want a taste of Nepal in the Decatur area, THIS is the place to be!
We knew we had to order the Lamb Choila from the list (lamb version), but we really didn't know what we were going to get. The menu describes the dish as a "popular snack with beer and wine" so I was imagining finger food.
What arrived appeared more like a Chinese food dish. The meat was marinated in delicious, but unrecognizable, spices (not at all hot) and tossed with a fair amount of green onions, cilantro, and garlic.
LOVE! Absolutely List worthy. As for the rest of our meal, I hadn't done any research so I asked our server about what a couple near us was having and, lo and behold, it was a "couple's special."
All right! We were in business since it was a sampling of their most popular dishes. The lentil soup was awesome. For the sampling dish, we loved the meat dishes while the non-meat dishes were just meh. We had a language barrier with our server so I couldn't decipher the proper names of what we were eating. I realize that's not helpful advice, but if you want to explore a new cuisine, Himalayan Spice is a great option.Let me know if YOU know what I was eating!!
