The List: Crawfish Shack

When the Best Dish List takes me to Buford Highway, I know I'm in for a treat, but the fact that I also met up with my friend Victoria, well, double bonus! This trip took use to The Crawfish Shack to sample the Boudin Balls.  I had never experienced this Cajun staple, so I was fired up!

I quizzed the server about the ingredients and he said they use dirty rice, pulled pork, parsley, and Cajun seasoning (a seafood version is also available, but I'm a sucker for pulled pork!).  They roll the ingredients together and fry the balls into this yumminess:

I never find fried food visually appealing, but when you cut into the ball, you get a hint of the goodness. And these ARE good.  Completely list worthy.Of course, I couldn't leave the place having just sampled the appetizers.  I ordered the shrimp po' boy.   The taste was solid, but not life-changing. Maybe it's because the Star Provisions version ruined me...However, the sides at the Crawfish Shack are what's really amazing.  When I ordered the red potatoes, I was expecting something smaller and not nearly so tasty.  They are dripping in butter and lightly seasoned, and the taste is so so delicious! The other side (we split these) was Corn on the cob with Cajun seasoning.  Are. You. Kidding?  Whoa...I will go back to Crawfish Shack just for the corn.Among the great food, the other thing I loved was how you see the fish before it's made - they have all of the fresh fish in the cooler when you walk in.
