The List: Buford Hwy & Quoc Huong

Anyone who likes eating adventures LOVES the Buford Highway part of Atlanta. The highway is packed to the brim with adventurous eating, but the vast array of languages, cuisines, and options intimidates almost everyone. Even when you hear of a great spot, knowing what to order is no small task. This is another reason I like the Creative Loafing 100 Dish List; I'm told the location AND the great thing to order.

I'm happy to report, this week's outing to Quoc Huong was fantastic if you like a little kick in your food. If you don't... well, there are some options for you too (just not as spectacular!).

Quoc Huong serves Vietnamese "fast food."  This shouldn't be confused with American fast food -  it simply means the dishes are simple, soup and sandwich (Bahn Mi) fare and the service is no fuss. Still, this place is wildly popular and though we found a seat easily, there was a wait by the time we left. The shop is in a strip mall in the Doraville area. Here's what you're looking for:

The item on the list is the BBQ Pork Bahn Mi. This is no southern BBQ imitator. The pork is spicy and paired with springs of cilantro and cucumber. If this place was even five minutes closer to the office, I'd be there all of the time. So, So good. Plus, it only costs $3.00!If you're less adventurous, the rolls are pretty and tasty. Nothing fancy here, but standard Vietnamese deliciousness. Our server wasn't into answering many questions (I don't think her job description includes "teacher"), so after asking about many of the soups we just asked for "the best one," which turned out to be the beef noodle. The soup comes with a plate of toppings (sprouts -- mmmm!!!) and slices of lime.

Throw a few of the ingredients in your bowl (and add heat from the condiment tray if desired) and you're in for a treat.  Two of us ate our fill for less than $10 each. What a find!!!  Whatever list you follow (or don't), be sure to hit this spot!
