Doodling at Work
I’m a big fan of linear thinking. I’ve mentioned before how I enjoy arguing in outline format (and I fear how I’m passing this along to my children!). Logic and I are good friends. I may or may not get a little impatient when people veer off topic with an emotional outburst.
And yet, I am also creative in ways that seem to defy my more logical self. One of the most contradictory among my routine habits - one that doesn’t seem to “fit” with my self-perception - is my habitual propensity to doodle.
Indeed, I am a closet doodler.
Don’t confuse this with anything remotely akin to artistic talent. My doodles come in the form of filling in block letters or coloring circles with random shapes. Maybe if I took pride in what I drew, I wouldn’t squirrel the images off to the corners of pages or resign them to my personal “to do” lists.
Alas, my attitude on this entire topic made a big pivot when I saw this video by Sunni Brown.
Watch and see how her thoughts land with you!
Doodlers Unite indeed!
