The List: Palookaville

How great would a corn dog have to be in order to make the top 100 list of best dishes in Atlanta? A CORN dog?

Perhaps the best food at a State Fair. Definitely the best at a lemonade stand.  But in a city?  I wasn't sure. Still, we were near Palookaville in Avondale Estates with friends and children in tow, so why not give it a try?

If you've ever been near the Tudor Estates in Avondale (hopefully to dine at The Bishop - YUM!), chances are you've noticed Palookaville sitting prominently on the corner of Avondale and N.Clarendon.As cute as the location is, the inside is even better. I felt as if I were walking into someone's very hip basement from the 1950's (minus any musty odors!).Every last bit of space was filled with fun surprises.  The boys found this Christmas Story flashback. There are ancient board games on the wall, a "Golden Ticket" from Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory, and some incredible original art. Clearly the owners have an awesome sense of whimsy! We were having a ball even before we had tasted the food. But what about the food?  Could it live up to the fun of the atmosphere? Based on the menu, it certainly had the potential. And I was suddenly craving pie...

However I was there to have the Frienstein Monster which was a 3-in-one corn dog housing a beef frank, Polish Kielbasa, and Italian sausage.  So far, so good! I topped it with some spicy brown mustard and banished all thoughts of calories! Deeeeeelish!!  Most definitely list worthy!  Still, after trying all three types of meat, next time I'll likely just go for the beef dog.

Meanwhile, back at the table, my kids ordered corn dogs of their own plus chili served with chees-itz. What in the world?!My friend Susan went with the Pimento cheese sandwich with bacon because, well, bacon.

I'm thinking you need a close up of that.

Seriously?  While the corn dog was list worthy, this sandwich certainly qualifies!

After all of this eating, I couldn't manage the second list item, the Cinnamon Toast Crunch milk shake. I did, however, manage to snag a bite of Josh's ice cream.I will just have to go back I suppose.

My mouth is watering already. I hope my arteries can take it.
