Seeing Today Like A Dog

Mack, the yellow lab, is a morning dog. Unless I have a pre-5:00 am alarm, he is up before I am and waiting to start the day.

Typically, he sits a few feet away from the bed and hops up on his hind legs, hoping to see movement. (We have a tall bed and he can't see if he's too close.)

"Why are you so happy?"

I ask Mack this most mornings.  My words elicit something close to euphoria as he spins in circles and stretches in the perfect "down dog," begging for a scratch.

"Yes. Yes.  You're a good boy!"

More euphoria.

I scratch the down dog and Mack's joy is overwhelming.

Maybe it's my sleepyhead, or my reluctance to get into the shower, but I spend far too much time thinking about why he loves life so much.

I consider what this silly creature has to look forward to and I notice his joys are simple and routine.  I also realize many of his joys can be mine as well.

For instance, if I could see today as Mack sees it, I would...

Enjoy the chaos around me.Play well with others.Maintain a happy disposition. And, most important, I would always choose to be optimistic. We could all do well to adopt the dog's perspective!

Make it a great day!
