Living your best life today
Have you noticed there's always a reason to complain? Politics, traffic, weather - all of the usual suspects. But lately I've noticed how many people seem discouraged by the calendar or, more specifically, the days of the week. The common theme indicates a longing for something in the future, usually Friday.
I've noticed a few specifics:
Mondays are terrible. Everyone says so.
Tuesdays - just as bad as Monday, but you don't have the same cover as when you complain on a Monday.
Wednesdays- the ever-celebrated "hump day" which really just reminds you of the grind.
Thursdays - nothing but an obstacle to Friday.
Friday - Everyone loves Friday! Unless of course the commute hijacks the attitude.
Saturday- sleep-in day except when the neighbor blows the leaves, or the dog needs an early walk, or the toddler gets up early, or you have to get up to pee and can't go back to sleep, or you have a hair appointment, or...
Sunday - the day of rest which really isn't if you're going to the early church service, or cleaning out the garage, or suffering through your team's loss, or grocery shopping, or baking, or if you notice that the day ends with another Monday.
If you're not careful, you can piddle life away while you wait for Fridays. Today has the potential to be amazing. You don't have to wait. Consider "The bliss of growth, The glory of action, The splendour of achievement..."
It's waiting for you.
Look to this day
Look to this day: For it is life, the very life of life. In its brief course Lie all the verities and realities of your existence. The bliss of growth, The glory of action, The splendour of achievement Are but experiences of time.
For yesterday is but a dream And tomorrow is only a vision; And today well-lived, makes Yesterday a dream of happiness And every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well therefore to this day; Such is the salutation to the ever-new dawn!
