Incompatible And Lasting Marriage
I have known many happy marriages, but never a compatible one. The whole aim of marriage is to fight through and survive the instant when incompatibility becomes unquestionable. For a man and a woman, as such, are incompatible.
G.K. Chesterton
Today my parents celebrate 55 years of marriage.
55 years of making it work.
In a world where relationship are disposable, it's remarkable to see two people still working on their connection.
In a time where "in sickness and in health" is tilting more often toward sickness, it's inspiring to see new tenderness emerge.
In a family where everyone is scattered hours or time zones away, it's a privilege to have "home base" where our parents have fought through their "incompatibility" and remained faithful to each other.
Fifty-five years is no small accomplishment.
How did they do it? I captured their advice last year (here) and their insights hold true today, and I suspect they'll be true for another 55 years...or so!
Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad!
