Face Your Fears & Kill Your Dragon
“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.” Coraline by Neil Gaiman
What keeps you up at night?
What issue is gnawing away at your brain, what thought steals your attention?
What challenge makes you shudder, what task leaves you exhausted?
We all have dragons lingering in our lives, threatening to wreak havoc and set our world aflame. So what are we supposed to do about them? Do we sit around and wait for the upheaval? Can we all tip-toe past or even ignore the threat of attack?
I hate the idea of living under such nervousness. It feels restrictive, like a prison of our own making.
A friend of mine talks about confronting her dragons* (*my word, not hers) by "naming and noticing" them. Her approach is to bring her fears into daylight and say what they really are, deep down - things like shame, relevance, and acceptance.
When we understand our fears, truly understand, we free ourselves to dismantle their power, to "slay" them.
What are you afraid of, really??
Find your dragons. Name them. Then say, "Go Away!"
