Don't be scared

"He has not learned the lesson of life who does not every day surmount a fear."Ralph Waldo Emerson

One of my favorite memories of my daughter at age three was how she used to sing "Joy to the World" at the top of her lungs. She loved that song and she'd belt out the opening line...

"JOY to the WORLD the EARTH is ROUND!!!"

I loved the surprisingly accurate misspeak. If you've ever spent much time with a child, you start to notice random nuggets of wisdom. Kids are unencumbered by conversational "norms" and cut through cluttered, fluffy vocabulary by describing things as plainly as possible.

Such is the case with the film below.

This video is longer than I usually post, but the message is so poignant, it's more than worth seven minutes of your time.

The filmmaker interviews a six-year-old and, after the story of the bear and mouse is told, the child tells her what to do when she's scared. In case you can't pull up the video, the insight is that "scared is SCARED of things you like."  In other words, there's no room for fear when you are near things you love. (like your dog!)

The six-year-old tells the story best, so take a look and listen.

I think my favorite line is "O.K. I'm fine" and the advice to "let it go."

What did you pick up?
