A Dog's Day
Why is he so special? A slobbering, demanding, stubborn, mess. Forever underfoot, always in the middle of things Hairy even when he's brushed.
The bowl's loud, the barking louder. Scratch me! Feed me! Pet me! How about a ball toss? Or a swim? Considering he can't speak, he's awfully chatty.
Still, I admit it's a two-way conversation.Who is a good boy? Want to take a walk?Where's your ball? How about a treat?Come. Sit. Stay. Snuggle.
No one buys a dog hoping for a cleaner house. Hogging the bath mat, commandeering furniture, Drinking from the toilet, swimming in the pool. He's both an unstoppable force and immovable object.
Still, I am curiously indebted to the beast. Invisible intruders are barked into submission. He licks away tears and keeps the floor crumb free. No one lacks for company.
He's a good boy, this yellow one. The happiest dog on the planet. Perfectly suited for our team's quirks. And that is why he is so special.
Even though you can't read Happy 4th Birthday Mack.
